Is Clubhouse the new social media hype app?

If you don’t know what Clubhouse is, don’t worry. I didn’t know either and I googled it. Actually I searched for it on YouTube since I’m more of a visual person, and watching an explanatory video is more appealing for my brain.

So here is what Clubhouse is according to Business Insider

In short, Clubhouse lets you create and join “rooms,” where you can then chat with others in a big conference call. There are no pictures, videos, or really even text — just audio. Users can join and leave the call at any time, turning any room into a public meeting hall.

Does this sound like Discord to me? Yes, pretty much.

Now here is what makes Clubhouse “different” or “special”, OR makes you feel “left out” too depending on how you look at it. In order to join, you have to be invited from an existing user! So you can’t basically join any room unless you get invited in the first place. However, you can download the app and reserve your username. So that’s the only thing you can do until you get an invitation.

So, what are people doing in these rooms? Basically talking and listening to each other. It’s like a big conference room with someone talking about a specific topic. The rest are listening and can participate if they are “on stage”.

If you are a visual person like me, here is a good video that explains how Clubhouse works.

So, is Clubhouse the new social media hype? Well it could be! I mean, people are always skeptical to new apps (including me) but I do have a feeling that this could be something. Let’s just have a look at TIKTOK for example. It literally blew up and so many kids, youths and adults are very active on there. The only difference with Clubhouse is the fact that there are no pressure of uploading pictures/videos, or even having a camera on, and getting likes and comments. What truly matters here is what you’ve got to say in the mic.

I would love to be invited just to explore the app and see how it works. And who knows, it could either be a flop or bop! What do you think?
