Travel alone

I’ve never travelled alone before in my entire life. We’ve always travelled as a family. The only time I had a close experience of travelling alone was when I travelled to London with my sister.

Background story

It was the 12 of april. I was sitting in front of my laptop during a lecture at my university. I wasn’t listening at all and I wasn’t writing notes. My sister was getting engaged in Turkey, and here I was, sad about me not being with her. We were best friends and we did everything together. How can I not be with her at this special moment of her life. I opened a new tab, typed www.turkishairlines.com and booked a ticket!

I wrote a message to my sisters husband telling him to pick me up at the airport tomorrow morning. He was not allowed to tell my sister and they hadn’t got my permission to start the festivities until I arrived. I was so excited to travel alone and to surprise my sister. I went straight to the mall, bought a box of pink flowers and a matching set of watches.

I called an old best friend at that time asking for advice on what to write for the couple, since my arabic was not the best haha. And my writing for that matter. I then asked my sisters, my uncle, and my two lovely best friends to write a short wish each.

I packed my bag, set my alarm clock (even though I didn’t sleep that night, talking on the phone and being so excited about everything)

My 2 lovely best friends in the world picked me up the next morning and drove me to the airport. We were so hyped and excited, I wished I could bring them with me. I sat next to an american-lebanese guy on the airplane and we talked for hours about everything! I was so happy about that because I realised that travelling alone was kind of… boring.

My sister’s husband picked me up, drove us to their place and went in. I stayed a bit longer and then knocked on the door. My sister was SO surprised I wish I could show you the footage! (she’s not wearing her headscarf so sorry, can’t show you)

The evening was amazing. Lots of food and celebrations. I was so happy I made the decision and went all the way to Turkey to be with my sister on her special day. And luckily for the couple I turned up, because no one had a camera except me. And I took a bunch of lovely pictures that will forever be a lovely memory.

Travelling alone was very boring but very calming. I felt no stress, which I always do when we travel the whole family of 7. So that was the BIGGEST difference.
